Job Title: Therapeutic Practitioner- SEMH Homes

Job Type: Full-Time

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week

Location: West Berkshire and Hampshire

Shift Pattern: 7am – 3pm, 2pm – 10pm or 7am – 10pm

Minimum of 1 sleep in per week is required at £45.00 per sleep in.

Our independent children’s homes are rated as Outstanding by Ofsted and provide therapeutic care to children between the ages of 5 and 18 who are unable to live with their families.

Job Details

  • The Therapeutic Practitioner- SEMH Homes will act as a positive role model for the Children and Young People within Amegreen Children’s Services, offering care and support based on structure, consistency and nurturing as part of day-to-day living, always Ensuring the safety of each Child or Young Person.
  • To be intuitive to Children and Young People’s needs; be it physical or emotional
  • To be alert to any indication of stress or abuse; and monitoring, recording and reporting accordingly.
  • To encourage, advise and promote good personal hygiene for all Children and Young People.
  • be aware of the norms of adolescent behaviour as a framework for viewing, assessing and responding to behaviour in a residential setting.
  • To communicate with the Parents of Young People, and professional individuals such as Teachers, Therapists and Social Workers.
  • To welcome, supervise and encourage family contact when are where appropriate.
  • To be able to listen to, guide and advise Young People sensitively, offering comfort at times of stress or sadness, and sharing their joy when right to do so.
  • To be aware of Child Protection issues, guidelines and procedures.
  • To carry out any administrative duties and record information with accuracy such as:
  • Daily logs and communication.
  • To produce monthly Residential Placement Plans.
  • To record any Significant Incident Reports.
  • Physical Intervention Reports.
  • To produce Child Care Review Reports.
  • To offer and receive handovers at shift change.
  • To attend group meetings.
  • To attend staff meetings and ‘In-House’ Training.

Skills and requirements for this Job

The Therapeutic Practitioner- SEMH Homes will need the following:

  • NVQ Level 3 Children and young people
  • NVQ Level 3 Residential Childcare
  • NVQ Level 3Children, young people and family practitioner
  • Degree in Psychology is preferable.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of activities to develop and sustain appropriate relationships with young people.
  • Ability and preparedness to recognise and deal with conflict.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to cope with stress.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and work effectively with complex cases.
  • To be proficient in Microsoft Office and other IT related work platforms
  • Prepared to be flexible and available to work weekends and public holidays, as well as attend residential holidays with the young people during school holidays.
  • Hold a current driving license.
  • Experience of residential care work.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Experience in working with children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Difficulties
  • Awareness of current childcare legislation.
  • Awareness of the existence and effects of social disadvantage and discrimination.
