Job description
Our client designs and manufactures automation and controls for the marine industry. They have been established for nearly 50 years providing cutting edge technology improving safety and operations for naval and commercial shipping, luxury yachts and special purpose craft such as lifeboats worldwide. The Test Technician will be workshop-based testing and repairing company electronic products to component level.
Duties:
- Set up, test and repair both in-house designed PCBs to component level and third party equipment
- adding peripherals, installing company software and setting up project specific files
- Assembling, connecting project specific systems and maintaining in-house functional test Sets/Rigs
- Produce, complete & update any test documentation
- Assist with the development and assessment of new products, building and testing prototype models based on technical guidelines
- Maintain product inventory using MRP/ERP system
- Provide assistance to customers and internal staff with technical problems via email and telephone
- Provide Stores/Goods In/Out cover for Holidays, etc.
Skills & Experience:
- Must be qualified to ONC level or above in a relevant electronic discipline
- Experience gained within the electronic/service industry is essential
- Knowledge of analogue/digital monitoring, control systems and associated I/O hardware along with older technologies such as Arcnet would be beneficial
- Must be able to work to tight deadlines and be able to maintain a professional manner
- Able to identify needs/requirements and make productive and efficient use of both time and resources
- Must be good with computer technology capable of using both word and excel
- The ability to diagnose faults and resolve issues is essential
- Experience of interfacing to third party equipment with serial communications, RS 485, RS 232, Canbus, Modbus etc. is desirable
- It would be useful to have experience in the use and maintenance of PLC's, e.g., Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Wago, Allen Bradley
- Experience of ship and marine systems e.g., power and propulsion control, chart systems, radar or communications is preferable
- Must have the right to live & work in UK with a minimum of 3 years residency to qualify for MoD SC
