Job description

As an Automated Test Engineer, you’ll be part of our Engineering community helping to build great and reliable products and experiences for our customers. You will work with both iOS and Android Engineers to build and maintain our native automation frameworks that regularly assert that we’re meeting acceptance criteria, and champion the spread of quality and good testing practice throughout the team.

As part of our mobile team, you will be involved from inception to delivery of new offerings and help us to improve our existing app features. With your technical craft, curiosity, and experimentation, you’ll use your judgement to apply appropriate testing techniques to deliver and maintain focused outcomes that support our customers. More about the role

  • You’ll own test automation for large-scale, highly critical services using native languages, tools and test frameworks relevant to the product, such as Espresso, XCTest and BrowserStack
  • You’ll enhance speed and confidence in delivery by incorporating test components into CI pipelines
  • You’ll contribute to our product technical roadmap
  • You’ll work with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform with the goal to automating everything
  • You’ll lead the design and support of services and internal frameworks that enhances Sainsbury’s capabilities
  • Engineering throughout the whole product lifecycle, including decommissioning

More about you

  • Possess programming language expertise in one or more languages in our ecosystems such as Kotlin and Swift
  • Solid understanding of engineering practices and architectural principles
  • Proven experience of software design and implementation, security, cloud, infrastructure as code and CI/CD and any relevant hardware
  • Previous contributions to the software design and implementation of at least one public-facing app on the Android Play Store or iOS App Store.
  • Proven skills in security testing, infrastructure, and testing cloud-based applications (Amazon Web Service).
  • Experience with setting up CI/CD pipelines, and troubleshooting problems alongside developers
  • Self-drive and constantly strive to improve your team's approach to testing and quality
  • Champion agile and lean delivery methodologies
  • A passion for delivering quality solutions to customers, owning the whole SDLC and living the DevSecOps principles
  • Curiosity towards emerging tech, and a keen interest in developing your skills
  • Contribute to an inclusive and successful team culture promoting empathy and understanding within the team to deliver features smoothly
