HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group (CCG) is larger than most government departments with 25,000 colleagues in locations across the UK. It is at the heart of our transformation and is responsible for delivering the department’s high-profile and reputation-critical compliance activities. CCG has unparalleled scale, breadth and impact within HMRC and is also involved in critical cross-Government initiatives and priorities.
Risk Intelligence Services (RIS) is currently working with our Chief Data Information Office (CDIO) to build and deploy new risking services utilising integrated SAS VIYA tools. This is a high priority Programme with Government Major Project Portfolio Status (GMPP). You will join a RIS Configuration Team who are configuring the tools and data for 6500+ end users.
As a Test Engineer at HMRC you’ll be part of a diverse and empowered team and help to develop your professional competence to become a respected member of the technology industry.
You will work closely with software developers to reach a common understanding of the code base and test coverage at multiple levels. You will collaborate with analysts to make sure the required business scenarios are covered in the acceptance test scripts and work on both functional and non-functional areas of an application. You’ll also coach and mentor other members in the best test practices.
You will have an awareness of the role of software testing in the development lifecycle and take a logical and analytical approach to problem solving and pay close attention to detail.
Person specification
Key Responsibilities:
- Writing and executing functional and non-functional tests at each level, and debug and refactor the test code
- Measuring and reporting on test activity, managing defects and author software defined tests
- Undertaking exploratory testing
- Assisting in designing test environment set-ups and configurations
- Identifying new test techniques and tools
- Educating and supporting the rest of the delivery teams with testing, educating internal and external partners and working with delivery teams to define ‘quality’
- Using software development skills applied within a testing context
- Committing to further your understanding of new test methodologies, processes, and technologies where appropriate
Skills & Qualifications:
- Able to design and execute test cases using standard testing techniques. Able to envision different business scenarios for a feature, working with others in the team
- Able to use a range of technologies for testing. Proficient in at least one type of tool to write test scripts. May use technologies to design and execute test cases under mentorship
- Able to identify simple patterns and trends. Investigate problems and opportunities in existing processes and chip in to recommending solutions to these. Work with partners to identify objectives and potential benefits available
