Job description
Main Duties:
- Receive incoming calls that maybe of a sensitive or confidential nature, ensuring the caller is put into contact with the appropriate department or individual by referencing a computerised telephone directory
- Effect timely alerts to appropriate staff following emergency alarm activations, cardiac arrest calls, air ambulance arrivals and departures and any other incidents requiring emergency action
- Initiate emergency calls to appropriate response teams in the event of a major incident
- Alert staff via paging system to internally and externally received calls requiring their attention
- Receive internal calls requesting completion of ad-hoc tasks or maintenance, record details of the task and allocate the task to the appropriate department using a computerised system
- Monitor all fire alarms for the hospital and when an alarm is activated notify the fire brigade and also activate the fire team using the internal bleep system
- Maintain the internal bleeps by changing batteries, swapping out faulty bleeps as well as reporting any faults with the system to the supervisor and carry out tests as directed by line manager
- Compile and maintain daily on call roster from rotas forwarded from hospital departments
- Amend and maintain the computerised hospital telephone directory
- Must be aware of and able to carry out the hospitals major incident plan correctly and efficiently as and when required
- Demonstrate duties to new or less experienced Telecoms Operatives as delegated by the Telecoms Manager or their nominated deputy
