Job description
We require call out engineers to perform general optical patching & scoping work on the PIA network. All details of works are provided on a MOP and vary site to site but general duties include.
- General caballing
- Optical Fibre Patching (typically OLT to ODF Main frame)
- Optical Fibre Scoping
- Optical Fibre cleaning
- Optical Fibre Labelling
The generic scope for this works is:
- Arrive on site as per the plan
- Contact the NOC and raise a work tickets the end client
- Carry out site risk assessment, highlighting any HSE issues
- Locate rack and put on ESD wrist band
- Record Optical Power metre readings
- Complete patching
- Apply labels in line with the MOP
- Complete Site Acceptance Records and submit within SLA timeframe
- Book off site with NOC, end client and project teams
Shadowing with experience is provided to ensure you fully competent to be successful once you are alone working
You will be expected to provide the below specialist tooling, in addition to your standard hand tools:
- Fibre Inspection Probe – with Autofocus and On-board pass/fail analysis.
- Brady labeller – needs to be BMP71, BMP51 or TLS2200
- Optical Power Meter (OPM) that can receive light at 1490
- 1 click cleaner,
- Cletops cleaner.

You will be provided a “hospital kit” containing the below and brady labels are replenished on a regular basis by the project team
- Shielded RJ45
- Unshielded RJ11
- Unshielded RJ45
- Cage Nuts
- Brady Labels
The work is offered on a day rate or salary basis.
