The Role:
Technical Services (TS) is focused on ensuring current and future investment in technology maximises the opportunities to support Essex County Council (ECC) from a technology perspective. Bringing a new focus to understanding and supporting the business functions will be key in exploiting technology to deliver positive business outcomes.
We have one Technology Services Apprentice – Cyber Security Technologist (Defender & Responder) opportunity available starting in September 2023!
The Cyber Security Technologist Apprentice is an entry level role to the TS function providing an opportunity for career development in an IT Role within any of the TS areas. Trainees will follow an agreed development programme that identifies the most suitable career path based on the aptitude and developing capability of the individual trainee. The role will require successful completion of the Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 Apprenticeship and include an end of study assessment. Once the Apprenticeship has been successfully completed, you will achieve the following professional recognition: RITTech for Level 4.

What will you be doing?
- Work collaboratively with different areas across the TS team on a development programme for a specified period of time in each TS area to gain an understanding of the service before agreeing the most appropriate career path
- Whilst working within each team ensure you meet the objectives of the role agreed and deliver work within agreed timescales to be able to demonstrate learning and acumen for technology
- Utilises experience gained within each team to help improve the TS service to the benefit of TS and ECC IT Users
- Ensure delivery of requirements agreed in the personal development plan including any external training, assessment or examination needed to be successful
- Responsible for agreeing a personal development plan with the Professional Development Officer that addresses the specific needs of an agreed chosen career path
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework
About You:
You will:
- Be educated to A Level or on a career path to attain a relevant IT qualification
- Have a good understanding of the commitment to continual professional development to keep pace with technical and business change and acceptance of working to meet agreed SFIA V7 (Skills Framework for the Information Age Version 7) competencies
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft office packages
- Be enthusiastic and able to demonstrate a determination to succeed in the TS Team
- Have the ability to work cooperatively with others to successfully achieve tasks and deliver results
- Possess good written, verbal and presentational skills
- Have evidence of good customer service skills
- Have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
- Have the ability to review your own performance and progression to learn from successes and setbacks
Essential Requirements for the role:
- Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (or equivalent), which is a Grade D/E or 2/3 to begin the apprenticeship
- Ability to reach a Level 2 Functional Skills in both Maths & English by the End Point Assessment (EPA), if you do not already have this
