Apprenticeship Type: Our Degree Apprenticeships offer an alternative to the full-time university route. You will join on a permanent contract consisting of a three-year structured programme which includes a series of different rotations across multiple areas of your business line, all whilst working towards an externally recognised Degree qualification via one of our university partners.


Programme Overview

As a Degree Apprentice at HSBC, 20% of your time will be spent studying towards a Digital Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship (BSc) at Ada National College for Digital Skills, accredited by the Open University. The remaining 80% of your time you will be working in our HSBC technology teams, solving important technology and business problems for our clients, and developing your professional and technical skills.


During this experience, you'll be part of a community, you will join a group of apprentices embarking on the same journey as you. You will also have access to a broader group of people that will support you throughout to develop both personally & professionally.


As an apprentice, year one will be primarily focused on gaining the skills and certification needed to do the job. Then you'll progressively transition into a specialist pathway that is the right choice for you based on your skill set, preferences, and the business need, while continuing to attend college

Below are some of the requirements and skills we are looking for in a Degree Apprentice

  • Curiosity and drive to search for information, summarise it and share findings
  • Goes beyond the ask, to further understand in-depth topics that are relevant for the role
  • Collaborates well as part of a team to solve problems in dynamic environments
  • Proficient oral, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop interpersonal relationships
  • Display initiative, self-motivation and deliver high-quality results

  • Aptitude to Learning
  • Willing to travel occasionally for meetings to other UK locations, e.g. London.


Requirements: all applicants must:

  • Must be 18 years old and over
  • Cannot already have a degree in a similar subject e.g. Computer Science Degree
  • Have the right to work in the United Kingdom and been a resident in the UK/EU for at least 3 years
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at grade 4 and above (A-C).
  • Plus one of the following:

o 3 A*-C at A-level or Equivalent (STEM subject is an advantage, but not necessary)

o BTEC National or NVQ/SVQ Level 3

o Level 3 Apprenticeship Qualification (or equivalent)
