The opportunity
You will be based in the Technical Support Unit and will provide support to the school’s teaching laboratories which are in the Food Industry Centre on Llandaff Campus. The Food Industry Centre includes a consumer sensory suite, a bakery, a confectionary room, low and high care pilot sized food plants, a development kitchen and a consumer science research kitchen. The post holder will join a small team of experienced technicians.
Applications are sought from motivated, enthusiastic and friendly people with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience.
What we are looking for
- A knowledge of food industry health and safety requirements and their impact upon the working environment.
- The ability to plan, prioritise and organize own work, including work/equipment protocols and resources to achieve agreed objectives.
- The ability to introduce others who are new to the area (including students) in standard information and procedures.
- The ability to liaise with senior staff on training and development needs.
- Ability to communicate information which needs careful explanation in a clear and accurate manner appropriate to the recipient.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- The ability to liaise with other groups and disciplines in accordance with existing procedures to ensure that work is carried out effectively.
- Good record keeping skills, including the ability to maintain accurate laboratory notebooks.
- Practical experience of working in food science.
- A clear commitment and interest in Food Sciences with a desire to share knowledge and motivate students.
