Sutton Coldfield Town Hall is a Grade A locally listed theatre venue with a seating capacity of c.400, with regal charm. We are a charitable trust run entertainment venue and community hub, with a focus on combining great shows and experiences with funding the legacy and longevity of the building and its history

Job Description

The role requires a very approachable and enthusiastic person who is dedicated to delivering excellent customer service, working with our visiting touring companies. You will be responsible for the technical aspects of our shows and events.

The ideal candidate will have technical theatre experience and will be great at working as part of a team. A calm manner under pressure no matter the circumstance and strong communication skills are also required, along with a strong attention to detail. A sound knowledge of health and safety within a venue will also be advantageous.

Salary and Hours:

  • Salary: £24,336
  • Annualised Hours - Annualised hours contract, totalling 1,872 hours rolling annually. (1,670 Hours to be worked, due to annual leave hours entitlement)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure the smooth running of shows and events, from a technical / stage aspect, working closely with the event organisers / touring company in the lead up to and on the day of the event.
  • Liaise with the touring company prior to an event as the venue’s technical point of contact to ensure technical rider has been obtained, any set up / rigging has happened and any additional technical staffing required has been arranged.
  • Ensure any external contractors working on site within a relevance to your remit are working within the buildings Health & Safety policies and good working practices.
  • Assist with room set up for other events being held at the venue where technical involvement is required.
  • To maintain the upkeep of our technical equipment, to include, but not limited to, lamp cleaning, identifying and coordinating any repairs as and when needed and sourcing new equipment when required.
  • To act as a key holder, opening, closing and securing the building as required.
  • As a term of your employment, you can be required to undertake such other duties commensurate with your grade, and/or hours of work, as may reasonably be required of you.

Qualifications:

GCSE grade C or above in Mathematics and English or equivalent. (essential)

Specific Technical Theatre qualification or equivalent. (desirable)
Health & Safety related qualification/training. (desirable)

Experience:

  • Experience in a theatre or similarly relevant environment. (essential)
  • Experience of stage lighting design/programming/operating. (essential)
  • Experience of stage audio/visual set up / operation. (essential)
  • Experience of general stage maintenance / set up and related duties. (essential)
  • Experience of show and event delivery dealing with event organisers and technical crew. (desirable)

Skills / Knowledge:

  • Must be able to complete manual handling tasks equivalent to room set up. (essential)
  • Computer literate. (essential)
  • Knowledge of LX, sound and AV equipment, its installation and operation. (essential)

Interpersonal Skills:
