Z-Tech provides electrical, control & instrumentation maintenance and project delivery services across a customer base that covers the Water, Energy and Rail sectors, also with customers in the chemical and pharmaceutical engineering sectors.

About The Company
Z-Tech Control Systems (a part of M Group Services) provides specialist Electrical, Control and Instrumentation support to the UK’s Water, Energy and Rail sectors. We’re dedicated to working with our customers to develop and implement environmentally sustainable and cost efficient solutions to business challenges, enabling them to remain focused on day-to-day operations.
We currently employ more than 250 Z-Techers across 5 business units, each of whom has a diverse range of skills and backgrounds. Z-Tech’s 5 Business Units
Water – Serving the UK Water companies with EC&I maintenance and project delivery services
Energy – Serving the UK Energy industry with EC&I maintenance and project delivery services
Rail & Adjacent Markets – Serving the transport and adjacent market sectors with EC&I maintenance and project delivery services
ATEX & Electrical Services – Providing ATEX and Electrical compliance services across our primary sectors (Water, Energy & Rail) and multiple adjacent industries across the UK.
Labour – Providing technical embedded labour services across our primary sectors (Water, Energy & Rail) and multiple adjacent industries across the UK.
What will you be doing?
Year 1 will be spent full-time (3 days a week) at our training provider’s centre in South West London working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. This entails learning hand skills using tools across the electrical, electronic and mechanical disciplines within a controlled workshop environment. You will create write up’s that are assessed to achieve the NVQ Level 2 criteria. Also within year 1, you will be on day release with our training provider completing a BTEC Level 3 diploma in Operations & Maintenance. You will then spend 1 day a week within the work environment at Z-Tech working alongside our experienced technicians and engineers.
Year 2 will be the start of your NVQ Level 3 Engineering Maintenance in either electrical and/or control & instrumentation. This will be conducted at the workplace alongside experienced technicians and engineers across our apprenticeship pathway programme through our 5 Business Units (Water, Energy, Rail, AES & Labour), where you will be assessed on site. You will also be continuing your day release with our training provider to complete the 2nd and final year of the BTEC Level 3 diploma in Operations & Maintenance.
Year 3 and 4 will be the continuation of you NVQ Level 3(s) in your chosen disciplines until you have completed your mandatory assessments and achieved sign off from our training provider’s assessors.
Throughout the apprenticeship scheme you will be assessed against the criteria of the learning outcomes and Z-Tech’s values. Based on these performance criterion, during years 3 and 4 you may be offered the opportunity to complete a BTEC HNC diploma in an engineering discipline suited to the industries Z-Tech operate within.
Educational requirements:
- GCSE grades at 4 or above (A-C), in Maths and English, or functional skills at BTEC level 2 as a minimum.
