THE ROLE
Sotheby's New Bond Street is the company's flagship auction location in Europe. The complex comprises of 13 galleries which lend themselves to exhibitions, auction sales, events and private functions. The expert departments also provide private viewing facilities, safe property storage, cataloguing area and photographic studios. This role includes responsibility for the safe receiving, handling, storage, packing, transfer and releasing of the wide variety of fine art Sotheby's are responsible for the care of, as well as providing an exceptional level of service to both our clients and staff. The seasonal nature of our business requires a flexible approach and the need to work overtime, weekends and also assist the Auction Operations team at our Greenford Park site or other locations as and when required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Exceptional care in handling, movement, storage and packing of property with your primary focus and goal being the safety of both people and property at all times.
- A high level of personal presentation at all times and compliance with the department dress code.
- Complete New Bond Street training and all other training and refresher training schedules.
- Adhere to the New Bond Street procedures manual.
- Accurate checking and condition reporting of all property.
- Accurate labelling and locating of property.
- Ensure all incidents, accidents, damages or losses are reported to your manager immediately and an accident report form completed.
- Meet all deadlines for preparation of sales for exhibition set ups, views, breakdowns and transport, including planning and communication with all sale coordinators.
- Provide exceptional client service, both internally and externally.
- Multi-functional and able to work in any site area.
- Excellent communication with other departments.
- Ensure all equipment inspections are carried out and defects reported, in addition to day to day maintenance.
- Maintain designated areas and ensure excellent housekeeping throughout the complex.
- Maintain a high level of security at all times.
- Adhere to all health and safety requirements. Demonstrate an understanding of personal responsibility for the health and safety at work of self and others and carry out risk assessments.
- Work at height on ladders and mechanical platforms.
- Helping to manage assigned departmental inventory via bi annual stock takes.
- When working in the galleries, ensure your allocated area is adequately staffed with technicians and guards and raise any staffing or security concerns to your line manager.
- Attend weekly meetings to discuss forthcoming requirements, schedules, gallery allocation of sales and views, overtime and events.
- Ensure that all property is accounted for at all times whilst in the galleries and that all exhibitions are complete before public viewing commences.
- Ensure property condition report and risk assessments are completed for all sales prior to public viewing.

- General computer literacy.
- Able to undertake regular heavy lifting.
