Our Technical Support / Engineering Technician Apprenticeship is a 4-year program, which can lead onto one of the following 4 areas of technical expertise:
Manufacturing/Engineering Support Technician – this role provides technical support & expertise for all areas of the Manufacturing & Engineering functions. Examples include:
- Analysis tools & measurement; Process control, continuous improvement solutions; Capacity planning, production scheduling/planning; Product development & innovation
- Co-ordination of measuring machines; Laser trackers & scanners; Photogrammetry; Micrometres
- Quality planning; Use of quality tools & techniques; Dealing with customers on quality matters & industry regulators; Working with suppliers to ensure quality requirements are met
- Understanding regulatory/ customer requirements; Understanding of tool design & manufacture; Composite & metallic material knowledge; CATIA based CAD design
Year 1: The majority of your first year will be working offsite at college. Towards the end of the first year, you will undertake a return to site induction followed by onsite GKN training
Years 2 & 3: You will undertake Business Familiarisation rotation placements. During your placements, you will document work that you complete & review this regularly with your GKN training advisor
Year 4: You will complete your Level 4 Technical Certificate & continue on-the-job training in your final department. This is where you will complete your Qualification as well as your End Point Assessment
Key Responsibilities
- To observe the company’s terms & conditions of employment
- In both work & training, be diligent, punctual & attend courses, keep records & achieve the training objectives
- To behave in a responsible manner & in accordance with the requirements of Health & Safety legislation
- To promote the company’s name & image with respect & diplomacy
- To successfully complete all activities documented in the Apprentice Training Agreement
You must have at least five GCSE’s, as below
Maths: 9 – 5
English: 9 – 4
Science: 9 – 4
Plus two more: 9 – 4
If you live outside the EU you will need a UK work permit before you can apply for an apprenticeship.
