Your New Role
Our Aerospace & Defence division has great opportunity for an experienced in-flight equipment/ general aircraft design Product Safety Engineer to join us at our Ellesmere Port site. In this role you will be providing Product Safety expertise and direction with respect to Product Safety programmes on multiple defence projects.
What You Can Expect from the Role
Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:
Supporting the definition and maintenance of a Product Safety culture across all business areas, promoting the understanding that safety decisions have to underwrite the company’s obligations under DAOS certification and meet the requirements of UK Health and Safety legislation
Supporting and in selected cases leading safety audits, both internally and externally (i.e. other Survitec Defence sites
Reviewing and approving Product Safety documentation and oversee safety assessment activities including facilitation of Product Safety related activities such as HAZID workshops
Providing Product Safety support and expertise to new business proposals as required
Reviewing and accepting Engineering Change Requests for their impact on Product Safety
Complying with legislative requirements and Company and department procedures
Managing interfaces with other key technical areas including environmental, quality and design.
The Experience, Qualifications and Skills You Will Have
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified to degree level in Engineering discipline or appropriate discipline relevant to the role.
- Experience in Flight Equipment or general aircraft design and certification.
- Demonstrable knowledge of, and experience in, the application of UK and International system engineering processes, particularly in safety-related systems and safety assessment processes.
- Thorough understanding and experience of how the hazard analysis process and how it integrates with the system engineering process to influence the design.
- Ability to deliver supporting information (Safety Case Reports, Hazard Analysis, Functional Mode Effect Criticality Analysis, etc
- Safety & Risk Assessment Reports and Hazard Identification
- Hold or be eligible to obtain government security clearance
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience in working with the MAA or Civil Aviation Authority regulatory organisations and have completed suitable education/training in MAA DOAS, EASA Part 21 Subpart G & J, and be able to liaise with regulatory bodies
- ISO AS9100 Awareness
- Human Factors in Safety Awareness ideally in ergonomics
- Design Reviews
- Change Control
- Good knowledge of MS Project
SKILL/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Product Safety (Level 4 – Expert/SME Practitioner) with safety engineering experience for aircraft applying the principles of Mil Std 882, Def Stan 00-56, ARP 4754/4761 and ALARP
- Hazard management and risk analysis
- Construction of safety arguments and understanding their contribution to ALARP statements
- Provision of support to equipment-level and project-level Safety Panels and Committees
- Assisting in the management and integration of these activities with system engineering and design programs to ensure the timely delivery of material supporting the safety case/claim
- Liaising with other functions in order to derive safety requirements and hazards
- Working with systems teams in order to demonstrate satisfaction of safety requirements
- Understanding of the full Product Design Lifecyle (CADMID)
- Detailed mechanical engineering experience is highly desirable. Experience of other engineering disciplines (design, fabrics, manufacture, etc.) is also desirable
- Good verbal, written communications analytical and problem-solving skills
- Track record as an effective team player with strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-national team
