The role

The Faculty of Life Sciences is made up of five schools, which in total supports over 3700 students and over 800 staff members. These schools are:

  • Physiology, Pharmacology & Neuroscience
  • Biological Sciences
  • Cellular & Molecular Medicine
  • Biochemistry
  • Psychological Science

Working as part of a wider diverse technical support team, the role holder will provide essential support and leadership for experienced technicians whose main responsibility is to deliver practical teaching for the schools within faculty.

The faculty technical service team currently comprises of 65 staff members who enable teaching and research activities to happen for the each of the schools. The successful candidate will manage a team of c.18 of which are the dedicated resource for practical teaching delivery.

The role is new to the faculty and will be a key member of the technical services team who will help build on and evolve the excellent delivery of practical teaching.

What will you be doing?

Development and support of the teaching teams, understanding the appropriate resources and skills needed for the team to be successful.

Working with academic colleagues and the existing technical teams to understand the teaching needs and learning objectives for the different programs. Capturing and documenting these whilst supporting the team in the operational delivery.

Development of processes that will enable information and requirements to be captured and understood by all stake holders.

Contribute and take an active part in senior technical services team for the faculty.

Development of longer-term plans which will enable the team and the faculty to rise to new challenges as they arise.

The successful person for the role will have a passion for delivery of excellence and great interpersonal and communication skills. Having the ability to understand and interpret a range of complex and detailed information will be key. A true team player who looks to develop and nurture the team wherever possible.

You should apply if you can evidence the above attributes and at least more than one of the following skills or experience:

  • Good project planning and management skills.
  • A proven management and leadership experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of working in wet labs.
  • Knowledge of teaching practices and techniques preferably within a scientific or H.E. environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Health and safety requirements
