Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Lead, with knowledge of Dry Fibre technology, to join our Composite Centre team at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.
Working as Technical Lead, you will be exposed to state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and processing capabilities. You will develop your expertise and knowledge through developing solutions for future manufacturing challenges across multiple sectors. You will work primarily within the Dry Fibre Team, involved in cutting edge research using advanced conversion technologies for composite applications, whilst also support the wider composites team. With experience of fibre conversion technologies and processing, you will develop your experience in the field to become a UK lead in composite fibre manufacturing development.
You will contribute to the research objectives of the Composite Centre team, through delivery of a number of concurrent industrially-focused world-leading research and development projects as part of a team of researchers in an exciting and dynamic environment. This will include planning of projects and resources, project team leadership, writing of reports for industrial partners, regular communication with customers and partners, delivery of projects to timescales and technical problem solving. The projects undertaken frequently involve overseas partners and there may be opportunities for travel across mainland Europe, the USA, Japan and South Korea.
You will have;
- A good masters level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field, for example but not limited to: Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Physics etc.
- Significant manufacturing experience and knowledge, including delivery of Research & Development or material improvement programmes.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to solve problems creatively.
- Technical knowledge of composites engineering or manufacturing, specifically in Dry Fibre technologies, and are able to apply this effectively in the workplace.

The Composite Centre team focuses on producing and machining composite components, including hybrid parts combining high-performance metals and composites in a single structure. These structures can provide significant weight savings while maintaining the highest material and structural performance, offering improved fuel efficiency for aerospace and other transport applications.
