Area of Responsibility
This job manages a very small team of QA's, so the ability to manage people is important, along with managing audits (BRC)
As Site Technical Lead you will be reporting to the Factory Manager of the business and you will develop and lead a culture of quality and food safety at Danish Crown, so that these become integrated as natural ways of working. You will be responsible for all external site audits.
You will be responsible for the Technical operation and systems for the site, maintaining technical standards, in line with legislation and customer requirements. Ensuring the members of the technical team are also effectively implementing and managing in line with legislative and customer operating standards.
You must have excellent technical knowledge with a strong sector knowledge and a strong understanding of quality assurance requirements including HACCP and BRC.
You will ensure that all aspects of our Food Safety and Quality management systems operate in accordance with the business, customer, BRC and other external standards’ requirements; so that we remain fully compliant against customer Code of Practices, HACCP, and current legislation.
You will ensure that the NPD procedures are followed, for all new products being developed with customers, so that all new products are launched successfully, and all aspects of the development process are documented.
Specific tasks
· Responsible for product quality, safety, and legality
· Accountable for the technical and quality assurance function of the site
· Meeting company, legislative, customer and 3rd party accreditation standards (Lead all audits and visits where required)
· Manage, review, and update the Product Management system.
· Liaison with suppliers and customers, ensuring that any customers KPIs are supplied in an accurate and timely fashion
· Ensuring that the company’s quality systems are fully compliant with current standards and customer requirements
· Maintenance of the HACCP Food Safety Plan and leadership of the HACCP Food Safety Team
· Advising other members of the Senior Management Team about quality, food safety and legislative requirements
· Develop expertise across the site, fully understanding the processes and constraints, to continuously improve food safety, legality, and quality compliance across the site.
· Liaise with local and central government agencies as required.
· Maintain an awareness of current and future legislation changes - communicating and implementing any necessary changes throughout the business.
· Ensure robust corrective and preventative actions, using RCA as appropriate, are implemented and submitted in line with timescales for external and/or internal audits to prevent reoccurrence.
· Effectively manage customer complaint or other technical OOS investigations from a factory perspective. Provide evidence/ information to facilitate corrective actions.
· Manage all non-conformances, including trend analysis.
· Manage Pest Control systems.
· Manage Hygiene Operations.
· Manage the company Allergen Management systems.
· Oversee the sites sampling programme (Environmental swabbing, Product testing, Water testing).
· Manage sites validation and risk assessments.
· Manage the site Traceability and Due Diligence requirements.
· Manage Food Safety Culture Plan.
· Coach, Mentor and Foster a Food Safety Culture across the business.
· Manage daily communication to discuss and drive forward Food Safety performance.
· Work alongside the Management team on operational issues.
· Be able to work under pressure and deliver to deadlines.
· Ensure that specifications’ standards and customer requirements are observed and met.
· Be able to respond positively to changing business circumstances, and readily adapt to maintain effective performance.
Educational background and relevant experience
· Food manufacturing, BRC, HACCP, specification platforms, microbiology analysis
· Ideally Food Safety Level 3, HACCP Level 3 and Internal Auditor trained
· Experience in the Meat Industry desired but not essential
· Experience in a customer-focused technical role working with internal and external stakeholders
· Minimum 3 years’ experience managing the Food Safety/Technical function at Technical Management level leading GFSI accreditation & Customer audits.
· Experience of driving cultural change.
· Dealing with complex product legislation.
· Experience of managing a team.
· Process/Product Development experience.
· Excellent communication/presentation skills.

Salary: £48,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
