About the role

The role of a Technical Demonstrator combines technical knowledge and innovative thinking with the design and delivery of hardware and software demonstrations to students. The role will work closely with the academic staff who deliver the teaching within the School of Art, Film and Media and also be part of a wider team of Technical Demonstrators and Technicians who provide support for courses across the whole university.

This role will be specifically based around location film making, post production editing and motion graphics as well as multi camera television production so a working knowledge of camera, lighting, audio recording and editing techniques is essential.

About you (requirements)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and resourceful individual with experience in television and film production and post production workflows to join our great team of technical demonstrators at Bath Spa University.

You will be working in the TV Studio facilities as well as on location and supporting the post production of student work. With help from the technical team, you will also demonstrate the operation of video cameras, lighting and audio kit as well as editing software.

You will also work with students from other areas of the university including Commercial music, Creative Media, Dance, Drama and Acting. Other duties may involve the production of written and filmed instructional resources for the technical team website.

Previous experience in the film and television industry is essential and teaching in higher education is recommended. Desirable software skills

include Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and AVID Pro Tools.

About us

Bath Spa University is focused on creative enterprise and guided by our four values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration and sustainability. We teach around 8,000 students on a set of campuses around Bath, with most being located at Newton Park, including a listed Georgian house and grounds, or Locksbrook Road, our new city-centre art and design campus. Our research centres focus on creative industries and humanities.

Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.

This role sits within the School’s Technical Services department within the university.

This, in turn, sits within the wider Student Experience Department. This allows the role to provide learning and teaching to all students interested in learning more about television and film production. The successful candidate will work in the excellent television and film studios and post production facilities.
