About the team
The Apprenticeships Technical and Data team lead Ofqual’s work in scrutinising Apprenticeships End-Point Assessment materials and working with external partner agencies and other stakeholders to positively influence the quality of apprenticeship assessment delivery. The Team works across other functions within Ofqual to provide technical insight for regulatory activities concerning EPAs and plays a strong stakeholder management role with awarding organisations and the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
What will the post holder be doing?
The senior manager for Apprenticeships Technical and Data will play a leading role in ensuring that the work of Ofqual secures sufficient validity in the assessment plans of apprenticeship standards on which end-point assessments subsequently developed by awarding organisations are based. This role is offered on a 12 month Fixed Term basis due to maternity leave.
The senior manager will manage and have a lead technical role in the team of assessment experts who consider the design of end-point assessment plans submitted to Ofqual by employers, and will lead on feeding back to the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education and employers, Ofqual’s considerations.
The role will also take a lead in dealing with queries about assessment plans, liaising with the Institute, employers and other stakeholders in resolving issues and informing internal policy positions where appropriate.
This is a role combining technical and stakeholder management expertise while maintaining an understanding of changing policy and the responsibilities of different stakeholders in the apprenticeships reforms. Other aspects of the role include reporting, presentation of findings, and analysis of impact and efficacy concerning Ofqual’s regulation of EPAs.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Technically evaluating qualification materials and design documents to assess their strengths and weaknesses incorporating the views of others.
- Analysing stakeholders to ensure the effective management of relationships in providing feedback and reports to achieve Ofqual’s regulatory outcomes.
- Preparing briefings, reports, and presentations that clearly articulate Ofqual’s regulatory position and policy in a way that is appropriate for the intended audience.
- Developing Ofqual’s regulatory position and policy based on research and evidence, applying rigour and challenge to ensure that proposals are robust and strategically aligned.
- Developing and managing the implementation of Ofqual policy through appropriate regulatory tools or processes including, but not limited to, conditions, guidance, recognition, accreditation, audit and enforcement.

Ofqual works flexibly, with a hybrid office/home based working model. Employees will spend at least two to three days a week working from our office in Coventry. As Coventry will be your base location expenses for travel to the office will not be paid.
Final panel interviews will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams. Further details will be provided at invite to interview stage.
One of our resourcing colleagues will be on hand to answer any queries you may have throughout the process.
