As a Specialist Technical Advisor for Telecommunications, you will be responsible to own the development of Technical Solutions in the pursuit phase of typically large and strategic project and service pursuits, in the energy industries sector. You will be responsible to produce high quality technical content in the Bid phase, collaborating with the front-end Sales function and Bid Managers, typically working within a dedicated Capture Team. Whilst required to work across Market Segments, the role will predominantly involve high value tenders in the Energy Transition market sub-segments, which is a rapid growth area. This may include Offshore Wind, Hydrogen, CCUS, Nuclear SMR, Offshore Electrification, Energy from Waste, Waste to Fuels, Waste to Chemicals, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, District Heating, Battery Energy Storage, Microgrids and EV Charging Infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Studies, Tendering, Technical Advisory & Commercial Manager, you will ensure successful delivery of tenders on time, in line with specifications and with quality and safety guidelines in mind. May support the small-scale delivery of strategic Studies as a precursor to subsequent ABB project opportunities. Will proactively drive, create, and work with wider ABB divisions, on behalf of the UK Local Division, in developing and maturing the technical Solution offerings into the UK market. There is geographic flexibility within the UK for the best candidate. This is not a home-based role, but there is flexibility around working from home. Knowledge designing, engineering, and installing Telecoms systems below: -Industrial automation network design. -PSIM -Wireless networks (Wi-Fi/4G/5G) -Perimeter Intrusion detection. -Telemetry systems. -Leak Detection systems. -PAGA -Radio Systems (Tetra, DMR, NDB, AWOS) -Entertainment Systems -DWDM Systems. -IP Telephony system. -OTN installation & Commissioning -Access Control. -Cyber Security compliance. OG86 -CCTV

Your responsibilities

  • Provide early phase technical advisory support, in collaboration with the front
  • end, advising on technical issues, fronting customer workshops and
  • presentations.
  • Depending on the opportunities, short term travel to customer locations in
  • the UK and overseas may be required.
  • Assisting sales managers with opportunity prospecting, compliance to
  • customer specifications and safety standards, as well as technical details,
  • writeups, costs, and deliverables for sales proposals.
  • May own specific opportunities outright, including front end and technical
  • solution, if in line with skillsets.
  • Must consider financial elements and impact in design of technical solutions,
  • to develop a holistic work winning position.
  • Maintaining a strong network of engineering professionals and
  • disseminating engineering best practices to aid colleagues’ development.
  • Developing, selecting, and applying standardized solutions, procedures, and
  • tools, reporting inefficiencies, and identifying improvement opportunities, of
  • ABB’s standard deliveries and products.

Your background

  • 15+ years’ experience in industrial Telecommunications, working with the
  • latest Telecoms products and all relevant and compatible networks in
  • accordance with IEC and telecoms industry standards.
  • 5+ years’ experience in providing support to proposals & project execution
  • for Telecoms projects within the Energy Industries sector.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes, and tools, including
  • interpreting the customer specification into application codes, system, and
  • network design proposals.
  • A high level of self-motivation, curiosity, and a desire to learn about new
  • technologies.
  • A collaborative approach to working, demonstrating strong customer facing
  • communication and leadership skills.
  • Engineering Qualification B.Eng or M.Eng. (Telecommunications, Software,
  • Electronics, Systems, Instrumentation), or equivalent level of acquired
  • experience .
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language.
  • Current residence permits valid in ABB UK.
