POSITION SUMMARY

The Cashier/Grocery Team Member helps to create a phenomenal shopping experience for Co-op customers by upholding Co-op values and standards and supporting the cooperative principles through exceptional customer service. This position performs customer service, cashiering, stocking, packaging, cleaning and maintaining food safety standards. A Cashier is responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate customer check-outs, proper cash handling, and consistently exceptional customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Exceed Customer Expectations

  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for all people and all diverse backgrounds in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards.
  • Help customers make product selections by answering questions and providing information --with emphasis on local and regional goods.
  • Ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services in a professional manner that markets our cooperative advantage.
  • Understand what a member-owned Co-op is and be able to explain it to customers
  • Maintain a professional, calm, and friendly demeanor with all customers
  • Manage difficult or emotional customer situations with help of the Store Manager
  • Handle all transactions accurately and efficiently--including giving correct change; entering items, weights, and prices correctly.
  • Box/bag groceries in an efficient thoughtful manner

Grocery and Forefront Department Operations

  • Complete stocking, cleaning, labeling, packaging and other duties as assigned
  • Clean and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collect and place garbage, recycling, and compostable items in designated containers.
  • Consistently replenish products to ensure freshness and visibility.
  • Ensure accurate and sanitary product processing, packaging, labeling, and dating according to department procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all products-with specific emphasis on local producers
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Co-op Policies

  • Follow the Co-op policy of direct, respectful communication at all times
  • Follow established Co-op policies and procedures in all matters
  • Demonstrate excellent punctuality, adherence to scheduled shifts, and readiness for work when the shift begins
  • Adhere to the department dress code. Wear proper clothing during shift, including apron, nametag, and closed-toe shoes
  • Attend “All Hands on Deck” dates - inventory, employee meetings, holidays, etc.
  • Prioritize time to ensure work is done efficiently and on time
  • Look for ways to improve work processes and quality
  • Work independently
  • Monitor safety and security - take action and report any unsafe conditions immediately
  • Operate equipment properly and in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of self or others
  • Follow all food safety guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrate support for the cooperative values and principles daily.
  • Perform other duties and work in other departments as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Read and comprehend instructions and SOPs
  • Be able to communicate directly, professionally, and effectively with customers, managers, peers, and suppliers
  • Be able to use Point of Sale system, email, Sling, and time clock software proficiently
  • Add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s mentally

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Food Handlers Card for the state of Nevada
  • Alcohol Awareness Card for the state of Nevada

Occasional exposure

  • Cold, heat, and wet or humid conditions (weather and non-weather).
