Job description
As a Team Member in our local Field Teams, you will be maintaining our river and flood defence assets and responding to flood and pollution incidents. You will be working as part of a diverse team and will help to carry out routine maintenance, efficiently, safely and to a high standard. You need to be able to communicate professionally with our partners and members of the public.

This hands-on and physical role involves working as part of a team, outside in all weathers. You will be involved in a wide range of activities, from grass cutting using strimmers, ROBO and ride on mowing equipment, to clearing debris/blockages, and tree work using chainsaws and chippers. We also carry out some machine work so experience of driving tractors/excavators/telehandlers would be advantageous. You will receive training in all the required skills.

You will participate in our 24 hour call-out rosters, responding with your team to operate our assets including pumps, flood barriers and penstocks. You will play an active role in protecting homes and businesses from flood risk.
The team
The Operations Field team are based at Gloucester, Kidderminster and Shrewsbury. We deliver a maintenance programme on rivers and watercourses across Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire. We respond to flooding and environmental incidents both day and night. We provide advice and support to our colleagues and professional partners.

We also work across the country when called upon to assist other areas in incident response and environmental incidents.
Experience/skills required
Someone with hands on experience, working out on the ground with good communication skills. Ideally having proven experience and be able to demonstrate the following:-

Experience in a range of mobile plant and equipment

Experience in chainsaw operations and associated equipment.

Communicate at a variety of levels, both internally & externally

Excellent customer service skills both written and verbal

Self-motivation, with the ability to work well in a team

Personal skills requirement: taking initiative, good time management, flexibility, problem solving and decision making

Basic understanding of IT technology including smart phones and tablets

A full valid driving licence is essential. HGV, LGV would be advantageous but not essential. You would be based at our Gloucester, Kidderminster or Shrewsbury depot and would be expected to live within 45 minutes' drive.
