As a Team leader - Quality Engineering, you will lead the Quality Engineering team providing the support required in working towards the goal of delivering high quality products and project execution to the required specifications whilst meeting resource, delivery and budget objectives. You will aid in the development of systems which support the structured reduction of COPQ through continual improvement in departmental processes ensuring consistency, more streamlined ways of working and a reduction in rework. You will also coach, develop and mentor team members supporting their development and ensuring that best practices are followed.
What Needs To Be Done?
  • Supervise team activities ensuring that project quality tasks are planned, monitored and delivered in line with expectations and ensuring that previous non-conformances are proactively implemented.
  • Support direct manager in reduction of non-conformance level throughout assembly and manufacturing areas through root cause and corrective action exercises to minimise cost of poor quality.
  • Liaising with QC and Client inspectors, with regard to witness inspection to ensure parts and components comply with required specifications.
  • Attend regular project meetings to update the progress, manage standard project work to ensure documentation submission and scheduled dispatch dates are achieved.
  • Conduct annual appraisals and development meetings relating to all direct reports to support performance management.
  • Drive and manage internal audit and process reviews (plan, execute, report and follow up).
  • Drive Talent management, developing direct reports, ensuring succession planning is in place and that directs have the appropriate management and technical skills to support current and future Operational needs.
  • Provide necessary mentoring and coaching to team members ensuring that they develop their confidence and creativity as well as their technical expertise.
  • Deliver Quality Engineering support / advice to other departments, proposals, operations and after-sales areas of the business.
  • Provide Quality Engineering support in the Early Engagement process assisting the sales proposals team in providing high quality, competitive bids.
  • Evaluate and provide impartial technical reviews of sub-vendor bids to assist procurement activity.
  • Develop departmental metrics which are aligned to the overall business objectives and lead improvement efforts in streamlining relevant processes.
  • Use Continuous Improvement methodologies to promote Built in Engineering Quality concepts into Standard work. Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Commercial and Procurement teams to drive improved manufacturing and supply chain performance and early defect detection
  • Ensure adherence to company environmental, health and safety standards in compliance with company policies to ensure a safe working environment and the minimisation of environmental impact.
  • Maintenance of HCO Quality Management System across all value streams in line with the international standard to maintain ISO 9001:2015 certification.
  • Liaise with external parties such as certified bodies, customers, vendors or auditors on matters relating to the QMS.
  • Involvement in corrective action system that is based on proactive risk reduction and mitigation and that is adopted across HCO, utilising new ISO 9001 2015 principles to ensure delivery of improved customer satisfaction.
What Do You Need To Bring?
Essential skills, knowledge & Behaviours
  • HNC in Quality Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Leadership experience to coach team members
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience of the control and maintenance of quality reports and records
  • Proven experience in an Engineering environment
  • ISO 9001 Certified Internal Auditor Qualification
  • Involvement in Lean/Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Excellent IT Skills – Microsoft Office suite experience
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Broad range of communication skills with the ability to liaise with clients, senior management and shop floor personnel.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Sound commercial awareness
Desirable skills, knowledge & behaviours
  • Management of an ISO 9001 quality management system
  • ISO 9001 Certified Lead Auditor Qualification
  • Knowledge of process gases, hydraulics or pneumatics
  • Knowledge of Statutory or Regulatory requirements e.g. PED, Machinery Directive, etc.
  • Ability to create technical reports and make technical presentations
  • Knowledge of international standards and specifications such as API 619, API 614 and ASME VIII.
  • Experience working in lean and continuous improvement environment and of using associated operational excellence and growth tools and processes
  • Some knowledge of exotic alloys and non-metals in design applications e.g. elastomers, polymers etc.
  • Experience of planning, completing, reporting and follow up of inspection activities
