Cheshire West and Chester Council is the fourth-largest unitary authority in the North West, covering more than 350 square miles and serving a population of 340,000. Within our diverse borough you’ll find the historic city of Chester, the industrial powerhouse of Ellesmere Port, as well as growing towns like Winsford and Northwich. By delivering our core values—Teamwork, Honest, Respect, Innovation, Value-for-money and Empowerment—we're building communities where everyone can THRIVE.

The Role

This is a newly created role and an exciting opportunity to be the leading effort to build greener communities by delivering the Council’s climate adaptation strategy. Leading both the Flood Risk and Tree teams, you’ll coordinate our response to flood risks and head up the maintenance of our stock of 330,000 trees—an asset worth £7.5bn.

Taking a customer-centric approach, you’ll work with local communities and internal and external stakeholders to ensure that we meet diverse needs with services of the highest quality. You’ll also drive efficiency within your teams by developing smarter, innovative approaches to managing flood risks and tree assets. That’s how you’ll deliver the future vision for communities set out by the Transport and Highways directorate.

You’ll establish a culture of continuous improvement here. Using data reports to monitor performance against KPIs, you’ll adjust processes to ensure that savings and delivery targets are met and that resources are always used to optimum effect. But it’s in uniting teams and stakeholders behind your inspiring vision for our services that your impact will really be felt.

Your Experience

You’ll have significant experience in a relevant engineering discipline and a successful track record when it comes to performance managing teams and stakeholder partnerships in high-pressure environments. Highly knowledgeable of legislation relating to Local Flood Authorities, your experience with policy and procedures will speak for itself. Passionate about the environment and always up to date on the latest developments, you’ll be able to use your communication and people skills to implement the ideas that will ultimately improve lives in our communities.
