The role will be for 7 hours per week conducting lesson observations across the North West region.

The Teaching, Learning and Assessment Observer will support the Quality Improvement and Assurance Lead in conducting lesson observations, learning walks and TLA action plans to, improve and quality assure the standardisation and moderation of TLA in the WEA.

You will play an important role in supporting teams to assess the quality of TLA in the region and improve the standards of TLA nationally. Playing a key role in undertaking a wide range of formal and informal observations in line with the WEA process in a varied range of subjects and settings within the set region. This will include preparation for any observations paired with other observers including inspections. You will work closely with the Quality and Performance team in the delivery of the lesson observation cycle, learning walks and support for cases of notice to improve and re-observations - Improving teaching, learning and assessment throughout the WEA.

You will support and conduct TLA lesson observations and learning walks to the highest standard. Working closely with the regional Quality Improvement and Assurance Lead and Head of Region, you will support the Association in its preparation for any inspection that relates to teaching, learning and assessment.


You will play a major role within organisational wide observations, observation moderation and standardisation, ensuring that the educational experience for students is of the highest quality. You will also play a key role in working with the Head of Region and Regional Management Teams to embed quality improvement processes in line with the national priorities.

As a Teaching, Learning and Assessment Observer, you should have:

  • A teaching qualification;
  • A good understanding of the width and depth of post-19 curriculum and qualifications;
  • Experience of supporting the development of teaching, learning and assessment in further education;
  • A sound understanding of English, Maths and ESOL;
  • Experience of observing teaching and learning and moderating observations;
  • Excellent communications skills including presentations and report writing;
  • Ability to lead, support, mentor and coach teams and individuals in order that they can reach their potential and to ensure continuous improvement of quality in line the Associations aspirations for students;
  • A strong team work ethic. We like to collaborate and support each other;
