This is an exciting new role for the school in which you will take responsibility to support SEN students by delivering an outstanding Outdoor Learning provision between 10:30 and 14:30, Monday to Friday. The school is blessed with wonderful facilities including our Activity Den, which is used for Forest School, as well as a pond and secure outdoor learning area.
The role involves directly supporting a student’s social, emotional and mental health needs and supporting the individual within small groups/transition times/with individualised learning outcomes. The role will also include some regular indoor intervention groups and supporting children, which will be determined as the timetable is developed.
The ideal candidate will be a nature loving candidate who has a keen interest in supporting Upper Primary and Secondary aged pupils. If you have a genuine interest in making the young people’s lives better, with a keen insterest in nature and sustanability alongside an ability to think creatively then this is an exciting opportunity for you. The Outdoor Learning Support Assistant is accountable to the Director of SEND.
Main purpose of the post:
· To deliver a range of Outdoor Learning and Forest School activities to support, develop and engage young people to develop their social and emotional wellbeing.
· To provide in-class support to a pupil with additional needs, to enable them to successfully access the curriculum.
· To support the development of social and communication skills within an outdoor learning environment (it may also include a class and group setting).
· To provide practical assistance to the Director of SEND in meeting the educational, social and personal welfare needs of the pupil.
· To continually assess the environment to ensure a safe working environment for the pupil.
· To contribute to facilitating children’s access to learning, promoting inclusion, assessing and supporting achievement and monitoring progress towards individual/school objectives.
Main duties:
· To work with the Director of SEND to establish an appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environments.
· To work with the Director of SEND to organise a timetable of outdoor learning and Forest School activies.
· To work with the Director of SEND to evaluate and adjust support plans as appropriate.
· To monitor and evaluate the pupil’s responses to outdoor learning activities through observations and planned recording of achievement against learning objectives.
· To prepare the learning environment, resources and equipment.
· To establish productive working relationships with all pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
· To encourage the pupil to interact and work co-operatively with others whilst engaging in activities.
· To promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and acknowledge achievement and self-reliance.
· To implement agreed learning activities and learning programmes supporting the development and consolidation of skills across the core and wider curriculum.
· To ensure the safety of all pupils in the setting.
