The purpose of this job is to support teaching and marking in our modules, working with the academic modules leads through the delivery of small group teaching and/or the marking and feedback of coursework for students taking modules in the School.
About the role
This is for the subject areas of Accounting, Finance and Economics only. Main duties of the post are classroom preparation, support, facilitating seminars/workshops, regular meetings with the course lecturer, provision of feedback to students, provision of weekly office hours, attendance reporting, coursework assessment and examination marking. The post holder will report to the leader of the module/s they are supporting and the appointment will be available from 22 September 2023 to 30 June 2024. It is anticipated that a significant number of Teaching Assistants (TAs) will be involved in both teaching and marking. There will, however, be some opportunities for duties involving teaching only, and/or marking only. The department will make every effort to match the allocation of teaching and/or other duties to an individual’s experience, and to take account of any preferences regarding individual modules and specific duties stated at the time of application. Once appointed, TAs will be expected to show reasonable flexibility in accepting the class teaching they are allocated. Also, since the number of students on some modules is not known until after the start of term, the department reserves the right to make last-minute adjustments to teaching loads or timetables, marking and other duties. The allocation of class teaching to Teaching Assistants will be determined by academic staff in the School. Salary is £20.21 an hour (grade 6, spine point 27), plus an additional market supplement of £12.54 an hour, making a total of £32.75 an hour (please note; marking is paid at different rates depending on type of marking and length of scripts).
