Job description
Stokenham Area Primary School are looking for a fixed term teaching Assistant attached to an SEN child/Meal time Assistant to start as soon as possible. This will be a fixed-term contract for 5 days a week. The role will include working within whole class settings, supporting groups of learners and working with a specific child with special educational needs.
Hours are 5 per day as a TA and 1 hour a day as an MTA for 5 days a week, term time only (38 weeks per annum). Pay Scale is NJC Grade B – £10.60 - £10.79 per hour as a Teaching Assistant and NJC Grade A - £10.50 per hour as a Mealtime Assistant.
As a Teaching Assistant you must be able to motivate and inspire our children in their learning and demonstrate high standards in all aspects of their work. You will need excellent communication skills, a good level of Maths and English and be flexible to meet the changing needs of children. You will be patient, understanding and able to build a positive relationship with children, staff and parents. A willingness to work as part of a team, as well as taking your own initiative when required, is essential.
The Mealtime Assistant role involves helping children with their lunch and supporting them in the playground with games and play.

To support and supervise children at lunchtimes within school and during their times in the playground. We value our Mealtime Assistants very highly and believe that the difference they make to our children’s education and learning is essential.
DUTIES
SCHOOL MEALS
1. Ensure that children entering hall for lunch have clean hands.
2. Encourage good table manners and orderly behaviour in hall.
3. Assist young children in handling knives and forks, and if necessary cut up their food.
4. Encourage children to eat the meal provided and encourage them in avoidance of waste.
5. Clean up after spillage of food, water or sickness in dining areas during the service of the meal.
6. Remove used cups, plates and cutlery.
GENERAL
1. Undertake playground duty, supervising by circulating amongst children. This surveillance should not be carried out by pairs of Supervisory Assistants.
2. All children should be outside apart from those with special permission.
3. Supervise children in classroom during wet weather.
4. Attend to minor accidents and report this to a teacher if necessary. More serious accidents need to be reported immediately.
5. A FIRST AID BAG should be taken outside by Mealtime Assistants. If alone in the playground send responsible child for help if necessary.
6. Report to Headteacher any untoward circumstances.
7. Ensure that children do not leave the school without permission from a member of staff.
8. Assist staff as required in order to care for the safety and well-being of children.
9. Encourage good behaviour and positive play.
10. Never accuse without making sure of the facts.
11. Always try to defuse a difficult situation by separating opposing individuals
