Job description

We wish to appoint a caring, dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join the Learning Support team from September 2023.

The successful candidates will understand holistic education and will have the ability to actively motivate and inspire children to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

A level 3 TA qualification would be desirable.

Main Responsibilities:

● To provide specific support for pupils on a 1:1 basis or a small group on the Learning Development register

● To liaise closely with the subject specific teachers and the Head of Learning Development when setting termly targets for pupils on the Learning Development register

● To assist the Head of Learning Development in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment for all pupils

● To promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

● To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the School

● To ensure resources are available for lessons

● To provide regular feedback to teachers, parents and to other professionals on the pupils’ achievement and progress.

● Have a knowledge of the core subjects taught to the pupils

● Have a knowledge and understanding of working with an EHCP

Specific Responsibilities

Support for pupils

● Under the specific supervision of the class teacher, to work with individual pupils to deliver learning programmes that take into account any additional requirements

● To assist with the general pastoral care of the pupils, including helping pupils who are unwell, distressed or unsettled and have emotional and behavioural difficulties

● To assist the pupils with personal care needs which may include social, health, hygiene and welfare matters.

● To follow pupils’ learning plans, and focus on their targets; also to assist in updating targets every half term

● Be familiar with each pupil’s learning needs and their targets

● To provide feedback on pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher. This may include feedback on pupil progress in meeting individual Learning Development Plan (LDP) targets

Support for the School

● To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, Learning Development/inclusion and data protection reporting all concerns to the appropriate named person

● To assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time but during the school day, within contracted hours as necessary for their safety

● To plan, prepare and accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities within contracted hours as required

● To assist with the general pastoral care of pupils, including helping pupils who are unwell, distressed or unsettled and those experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties

● To attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and professional development, as required

● To attend relevant meetings and participate in training and performance development, as required

● To adhere to the school health and safety policy including risk assessment, and the School’s policy on Equality and Diversity

General duties

  • Monitoring and recording absences
  • Photocopying
  • Classroom displays
  • Ordering supplies and equipment
  • Stock taking
  • Cataloguing, preparing, issuing and maintaining equipment and materials

Performance Review and Appraisal

● To take part in whole-School reviews of policy and aims

● To evaluate, review and improve own teaching methods, materials and schemes of work

● To keep up-to-date with current educational thinking and practice, both by reading and by attendance at courses, workshops and meetings

● To participate in the school’s appraisal system
