Full-time (37-hrs per week); Fixed-term for 5-years, or until completion of PhD, whichever is sooner.


To comply with studentship requirements, the start date is fixed as Monday 25 September 2023.

Combining a teaching role with postgraduate research, this PGTA position is an exciting opportunity to complete a PhD under the supervision of Loughborough University's expert staff while gaining invaluable experience in the delivery of learning and teaching.


This PGTA position sits within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University and will support the teaching of Psychology. Teaching roles will include:

  • Demonstrating/Seminars/Tutorials – to undertake laboratory demonstration and/or support teaching activities during seminar, tutorial and practical sessions.
  • Supervision – providing support to academic staff, supervising UG projects through, for example, providing technical support in experiments or assisting students in the use of software.
  • Mentoring/Tutoring – providing students with guidance and technical support for module queries, study skills and referring them to appropriate pastoral support.
  • Highly moderated marking.

Candidates should have a strong, relevant, educational background, excellent communication skills and experience of undertaking a research project.


The PhD project must fall within the School’s research themes: Sport Performance, Lifestyle for Health and Wellbeing, and Sport, Business and Society. A list of potential projects and further details about how to apply for this opportunity can be found here:

Studentship tuition fees will be paid by the University, but no additional studentship stipend will be paid as this position will attract a full-time ‘Specialist & Supporting Academic’ Grade 5 salary (£27,979 to £32,982 per annum). Progression opportunities exist within the post as there is the potential to progress to SSA Grade 6 on gaining Associate Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy (or other such body) and meeting additional criteria after two years of employment.
