Division/Department: St Mark’s Private patients OPD

Responsible to: Senior Sister

Accountable to: Matron

Band: 3

Hours: 37.5/week

Location: TrustPlus- OPD NPH level 10

In order to meet the needs of the Trust’s services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of excellent clinical care within the Outpatients Department (OPD), providing support to the multi-disciplinary OPD Team. The post holder will perform unsupervised/supervised nursing, administrative and housekeeping duties for which he/she has been specifically trained and are within their sphere of competence. The post holder will work as a team member assuming responsibility to provide, maintain and promote standard care in a private patient setting.

CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to patients, promoting their dignity and equality at all times
  • To understand and perform a range of procedures and practices, including (but not only) vital signs, ECGS, urinalysis, blood glucose testing, taking and testing specimens, venepuncture, simple dressings and removal of sutures/clips
  • To recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
  • To undertake duties associated with maintaining a clean, safe, working environment
  • To lead by example maintaining high standards of practice, and being clear about reporting mechanisms within the department.
  • To maintain accurate, clear and concise patient records
  • To actively participate and contribute to departmental discussions and team meetings.
  • To undertake any reasonable duty required for the smooth running of the department
  • To maintain and follow strict infection prevention and control practices as per trust policies and procedures
PLANNING AND ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS
  • To ensure patient notes are ready for clinic with previous investigation results available when and if required
  • To prepare consulting rooms, clinics and trolleys, ensuring they are adequately equipped to maintain the smooth operation of the clinic
  • To assist in checking stock of supplies and organize requisitions for further supplies, to facilitate efficient and effective use of resources
  • To work effectively as a member of the team, offering support to colleagues and requesting assistance as necessary.
  • To organise own day-to-day work tasks and activities, considering the needs of the patients and the clinical staff engaged in their care
  • To maintain a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents, complaints according to Trust policy.
