Primary Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Salary Scale: £76 - £96 per day
Start Date: September 2023
Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are currently looking to appoint a Primary Teaching Assistant for an Alternative Provision in York, North Yorkshire . The position is to work as a General Teaching Assistant with Primary aged students, across Key Stages 1 and 2. The role is full time and to start in September 2023 . Ideally, you will have experience of working with children in a small group setting.

Primary Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate will work alongside class teachers and other key staff and external agencies to support outstanding education delivery.
  • Building rapport with young people and creating an inclusive environment for young people will be key to the job role.
  • Working directly with the class teachers to help students reach their maximum potential by providing support, motivation, and encouragement.
  • Create and maintain SEN friendly classrooms and teaching areas.
  • Support students both inside and outside of the classroom
  • In terms of group support, help facilitate group discussions, guide group work, or assist with group projects.
  • During group activities, ensure that students stay on task, collaborate effectively, and resolve conflicts if they arise.
Primary Teaching Assistant Requirements:
  • Have prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant or as an Education Practitioner with Primary aged students.
  • Be confident in managing behaviour within a school setting, using de-escalation techniques where appropriate.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH.
  • Be able to quickly establish positive relationships.
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education. DBS sponsorship is available for this position.
