This role is suitable for a candidate looking to build on personal or already gained experiences of mental health and SEN, it’s vital you can qualify and disqualify roles for yourself.
This is also a good role for within Parole, Probation, and the Criminal Justice system, especially for any form of advocacy the range of need, mental health.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual with previous SEN experience OR a Graduate with a keen interest in this area of work. The Alternative Provision is situated in Brentwood, Essex, supporting boys and girls, all who have a range of additional needs associated with social, emotional mental health challenges. It’s a larger Primary and Secondary, specialist provision, with over 80 students, aged 7-18.
All of the children, boys and girls, have an EHCP for their Autism, Social , Emotional and Mental Health challenges – the focus of the school is through the prism of restorative practices, it’s the main approach of the staff
The school offers a restorative, therapeutic approach to education and behaviour management, they want their children engaged in key and personal skills, giving the children skills they can use in and out of school.

What is involved:
- Providing assistance and supervision for students before, during and after lessons
- Assisting students to understand and participate in set tasks in an appropriate way
- Assisting with note taking and supporting literacy and numeracy
- Working with a class, a small group or individual learners
- Encouraging the development of appropriate social skills
- To ensure accurate individual student records are maintained
- Helping to build confidence and motivation
- Participating in team meetings and training programmes as an active member of a team
- Working with managers and employees to support the developing culture of the organisation
- Following regulations pertaining to safeguarding

What is required:
- An Undergraduate Degree (preferable) and/or previous SEN experience, ideal for Criminology and Psychology Graduates
- Working with and watching how mental health and Autism for eg, affects girls compared to boys, points often overlooked
- Good general education levels in English and Maths, 5 grade and above Is desired
- A Real focus on outside interest that diversify away from the core subjects, building key and personal skills – Sport, Cooking, Coding, Dance, Hair Dressing, Photography
- Knowledge, keen interest or understanding of the range of different types of learning and behavioural needs (SEMH, PRU)
- Ability to adapt to a various working environments and students with differing abilities and unpredictable behaviour
- A co-operative working style
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- A caring attitude and a good listener
- Flexibility in terms of working patterns
