Job Purpose:
To work with the Christ’s College SENDCo and Deputy SENDCo to ensure that students have the right approach to learning and ensure that conduct expectations are achieved. A Teaching Assistant is vital in helping every child make progress and reach their full potential.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
ORGANISATION
- Help students access the curriculum and to facilitate independent learning;
- Assist students in expressing their ideas both orally and in writing;
- Help students understand the implications of unacceptable conduct;
- Work with the classroom teacher so that students enjoy their learning and make good progress;
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students;
- Encourage, raise self- esteem and promote confidence within the students with whom they work;
- To provide practical guidance and support to students in and out of lessons, so that they can access the curriculum and make good academic progress;
- To monitor and record the progress of individual students;
- To encourage and advise students about how best to meet their individual targets;
- To help students with arrangements for homework and other independent tasks;
- To foster the highest standards of conduct in the classroom by being proactive with students who are struggling to control their emotions;
- To intervene swiftly and purposefully if a student is drifting ‘off task’ during a lesson;
- To employ a range of strategies, as appropriate, to assist students in understanding the lesson. This may involve repeating, rephrasing and paraphrasing language;
- To give students frequent and constructive feedback on their work and to use praise as much as possible;

- To support students in all aspects of internal and public examinations and to act as readers or scribes for exams when required;
- To attend all relevant staff meetings and TA meetings when timetable and work hours allow;
- To participate enthusiastically in all INSET and twilight training sessions;
- To support the College’s policies in terms of conduct, teaching, learning, assessment, homework and discipline;
- To model the highest professional standards of courtesy, respect, humility, integrity and self-discipline;
- To work with students with limited mobility when required;
- To accompany students with disabilities on College trips, both day and residential, as required;
- To work within our inclusion area ‘The Focus Centre’ when required;
- To work on a 1:1 basis with children with SEND/EAL;
- To carry out small group interventions if required.
- To support with the collection and return of students’ mobile phones at the start and end of the school day.
ADMINISTRATION
- To assist in the production of Learner Support Plans
- Undertake administrative tasks as directed by your Line Manager.
RESOURCES
- Operate relevant equipment/ICT packages/information systems (e.g. MS Office, internet, intranet, Arbor,
E-mail)
- Use administration supplies resourcefully
