Merchant Taylors’ situated in Crosby has a long and distinguished history as a leading school in the region. Based on over four hundred years of tradition, we aspire to be a forward-thinking and progressive centre of learning. We are seeking to recruit an inspirational and enthusiastic full time Teacher of English to start employment in September 2023 on a 12 month fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.
The post is open to an ECT or an experienced teacher. The role involves teaching English from Key Stage 3 to A Level. The successful candidate will be a well-qualified and enthusiastic practitioner who will exhibit a passion for the subject. You will be required to teach primarily at the Boys’ School but may from time to time also be required to teach at the Girls’ School as necessary.
The English department at Merchant Taylors’ has a history of excellence and we have a large uptake at A level. We are particularly proud of the high proportion of our students that go on to study English at university, including Oxbridge.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and dedicated to the holistic approach to learning we pride ourselves on at Merchant Taylors’. The individual should thus be prepared to contribute fully towards the School’s extracurricular and co-curricular programmes.
We want you to be excellent at what you do because we will expect superb teaching at all levels of the school; we therefore want to help you to develop to become an outstanding practitioner both in and outside the classroom. We aspire to identify and encourage the strengths of each and every student we teach, and for this reason we expect staff to be able to develop both an academic and pastoral relationship with their students.
The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:
- The provision of a safe environment in which children and young people feel heard
- Being aware of the indicators of abuse and neglect
- Ensuring vigilance in recognising changes in behaviour or mood
- Reporting safeguarding concerns in line with the School’s Safeguarding Children and Child Protection Policy
- Attending Safeguarding training and updates as requested by the School
The duties of this role meet the definition of regulated activity relevant to children and an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list is appropriate.
