Introduction:

Queen Ethelburga’s is set in more than 220 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, on the Thorpe Underwood Estate. Staff work as one team – whether they are directly teaching or supporting students as part of the school and pastoral teams, or as part of our estates team making sure that the campus works as it should – to create a vibrant learning and living environment in which every student can thrive. We aspire to excellence, have high expectations of ourselves and others, and take pride in everything we do. We aim to nurture resilient, confident, and independent lifelong learners. The Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate Standard is ‘To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have’.

Job Purpose

The individual in this position will be responsible for delivering exceptional teaching while upholding the Collegiate's rigorous standards. It is important to note that this job description is current but may be revised as the Collegiate's needs and the role evolve. Flexibility and adaptability are essential traits for this role, and it's important for Collegiate staff to understand that they may be assigned tasks and responsibilities outside the scope of this job description.

We would especially welcome qualified applicants with experience of delivering BTEC Art and Design Practice, Level 3.

The Creative Arts Department

We are looking for talented individuals to join our Creative Arts Department at Queen Ethelburga’s. Our students are introduced to art from an early age and encouraged to explore their creativity through a range of 2D, 3D and digital media, as well as experimentation with analogue and digital approaches.

Our Creative Arts Department combines the skills and resources of our Art, 3D Design, Dance, Drama, and Music staffing and facilities, offering a fantastic learning experience and a range of subject routes that go beyond the traditional subject choices. As students' progress through Key Stage 2/3, we further develop their skills through a wide range of stimulating courses at KS4/5.

In Art and Design, we offer student pathways in Fashion, Textiles, Media, Photography, Fine art, print making, and 3D. We welcome potential staff who can extend this offer and enhance our exciting and vibrant department. Our well-equipped rooms are staffed by experts in their specialist areas, and our students have access to a range of physical and digital applications, including CAD, Adobe and InDesign, 3D Studio Max, Blender and Sketch-up, on a Microsoft-based system.

Our students have the freedom to explore their creativity in accommodation that is inspirational and well-resourced. We have a traditional dark room, a well-equipped photo studio with backdrops and lighting, fashion studio, a range of 3D workshops and art rooms. The work produced, which is often award-winning, adorns the corridors around the school, inspiring the next generation of artists and designers. Many students choose to continue their studies at degree level and beyond, thanks to the experience they gain in our Creative Arts Department.

If you are passionate about art and education and are interested in joining our team, please apply.

Expectations

There are 30 x 55-minute lessons each week, with around 22 allocated to academic teaching. There is a Saturday Academy for the Creative Arts which we are seeking to further expand to cover a wider range of options (and is available as one of the normal days of working or on a rota basis with other colleagues). In addition, a full-time teacher will be expected to offer enrichment activities after school and be a form tutor following a structured programme led by the school teams for 3 x 55-minute sessions per week. Staff also attend directed time/whole school training after school on a Monday to 515pm. We teach for 34 weeks in the academic year. Applications are welcome from teachers who would like to consider a part time option and the expectations above will be on a pro-rata basis.
