Job Description
Group Tax is a key function within the Finance community of LBG, having responsibility for managing the Group’s tax affairs. The Group has a wide range of tax payments, deductions, and reporting obligations both for its own account but also for its colleagues and customers. Group Tax manages these obligations on behalf of the Group, ensuring the tax consequences of all transactions are understood and that the Group is in full compliance with its statutory obligations.
This role is part of the Group VAT Assurance, Risk and Compliance team that has specific responsibility for the Group’s VAT and other Indirect Tax obligations to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).
What you’ll do:
This is a challenging role for a diligent, high-potential individual to join the VAT Assurance, Risk and Compliance team within the Group Tax function of Lloyds Banking Group as a VAT Assistant.

Preparing, to review stage, specified sections of the LBG Group quarterly VAT returns and other VAT returns specified by Managers from time to time and validating information supplied by business areas.

Ensuring all VAT accounting entries, payments and reconciliations are completed in a timely fashion and preparing journals, CHAPS payment requests and intercompany transfers as required.

Involvement in management of emails on VAT queries from the business and finance stakeholders, logging receipt and informing managers promptly of any issues or necessary actions.

Helping in dealing with VAT and IPT compliance queries and providing basic advice on own area of specialism.

Providing ad-hoc support on a wide range of compliance and assurance projects.

Contribute to the development and improvement of VAT processes and systems to support the work of more senior colleagues.

Assisting in research work and the review of VAT accounting procedures.

Gathering information to enable internal queries and queries from HM Revenue and Customs to be answered.

Maintaining databases for VAT purposes and dealing with associated correspondence.

The ability to develop specialist knowledge within the field of indirect tax.

Keeping abreast of business and technical developments in own area of specialism and helping with the implementation and communication of changes.
What you'll need:

Accuracy, time management and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Active participation in training initiatives and taking ownership of self-development.

Initiative and good people skills with ability to form effective working relationships with colleagues in all parts of the Group and with HM Revenue and Customs.

Relevant experience from a previous VAT compliance role is preferred. Support will be provided to the successful candidate to commence Tax/VAT professional qualifications as part of their self-development.
