Job description
We are looking for a Senior Platform Systems Engineer to join the team. As a Senior Platform System Engineer, you will collaborate with several functional teams to deliver Microsoft Azure’s cutting-edge cloud compute hardware and infrastructure, you will work directly with engineers across cross-functional teams and deliver hardware designs from concept to data center deployment. Responsibilities will include interacting directly with Microsoft’s services teams, cross-discipline design teams focusing on the functional interfaces, developing test cases, and qualifying the designs and supporting customer teams through development and deployment. This is an opportunity to leverage and grow your existing platform development, product applications knowledge and provide innovative end-to-end hardware system solutions to Microsoft Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Be part of the concept design discussions, gather node/rack system level requirements, clarify interfaces, provide feedback into future design requirements to help develop robust and high-performance cloud hardware solutions.
- Lead in cross-boundary issue triage, debug, and resolution.
- Gather all the system engineering requirements for the infrastructure components by working with engineering groups and other stakeholders.
- Architect cloud test scenarios and guide software engineers to automate test flows.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure systems meet significant quality, reliability, and service level requirements for a cloud environment.
- Work closely with customer engineering groups to enable successful development and deployment server platforms.
- Develop and present customer communications for silicon and platform issues.
- Perform first level triage and debug for customer reported issue.
- Run experiments using customer workloads and synthetic benchmarks and provide solutions to customers.
- Engage directly on key technical topics, issues, architecture discussions, and performance optimizations with customers and internal teams.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
- 5+ years of experience in design, development, architecture of server hardware, including, but not limited to, any of the following: hardware, firmware, and Operating Systems interfaces, server systems/platforms for infrastructure, public cloud, Private cloud or related.
- 5+ years of Experience in windows and Linux operating systems
- 5+ years of Experience in platform level debug
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
- 10+ years of experience in server systems/platforms design and development for enterprise or cloud market segments.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud customer use cases and deployment scenarios
- Experience in evaluating hardware designs, hardware/firmware/operating system interactions, platform config trade-offs, performance tuning and optimizations
- Experience in debugging complex system level issues and ability to root-cause/identifying potential fixes down to a board hardware, signal integrity, complex programmable logic device, thermal and firmware components, operating system is required.
- Technical communication skills (verbal and written) to interface with cross-functional technical leads within and/or outside of the organization.
