The Azure Cloud Hardware and Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) team is seeking a highly motivated Principal Hardware Systems Engineer to work in a team of other hardware and software developers to create systems and modules to be deployed in Microsoft’s Azure Cloud. As a team member, you will work directly with engineers across cross-functional teams and deliver hardware designs from concept to data center deployment. Responsibilities will include interacting directly with Microsoft’s services teams, cross-discipline design teams focusing on the functional interfaces and developing test cases and qualifying the designs. Responsibilities

  • Gather the Data center and business group requirements for the node/rack hardware components.
  • Drive end to end product development.
  • Participate in concept, design, and development, conduct design reviews and manage product requirements.
  • Develop test and automation architecture, node/rack system level test cases, test requirements against system level requirements.
  • Work with original design manufacturers, other system engineers, design teams and customers to develop validation execution plans for new technologies and Microsoft intellectual property features.
  • Drive defect triaging, debugging, and resolution for cross functional issues.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure systems meet significant quality, reliability, and service level requirements for a cloud environment.
  • Developing quality criteria for different phases of programs.
  • Work with stakeholders on process improvement, data quality improvement and cross-boundary triaging.
  • Automate review process to improve data quality and scaling capability.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in design, development, troubleshooting and debugging server systems/platforms for enterprise cloud market segments, including, but not limited to, any of the following: infrastructure, public cloud, Private cloud or related.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading technology development in Hardware/Firmware area.
Other Qualifications
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in performance benchmarking tools
  • Experience in debugging complex system level issues related to board hardware, thermal and Firmware components
  • Technical communication skills (verbal and written) to interface with cross-functional technical leads within and/or outside of the organization
  • Experience in debug and measurement tools such as Logic Analyzers and Oscilloscopes
  • Familiar with networking, power, rack device management and remote access environments
Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
