Owning the higher level of systems engineering, the Enterprise Systems Engineering team is responsible for establishing effective and constructive bridges between Cruise's top-level stakeholders. As a project lead Systems Engineer assigned to a program, you will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Program Managers, Hardware and Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, as well as Operations, Legal, and Security teams to drive success towards the major initiatives at Cruise.
What you'll be doing:
Lead the system engineering team for the driverless vehicle integrated platform. This includes platform safety and availability, vehicle health and subsystems management, environmental and functional capability.
Partner with Program Office and Systems Architects to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for new autonomous vehicle programs.
Responsible for the system to meet the quality and technology readiness standards through requirements, Verification & validation strategy to enable large scale production.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and capture risks and develop risk-mitigation strategies
Work cross-functionally with GM and Cruise engineers by defining incremental and specific integration milestones that allow delivering capabilities and features progressively
Develop testing strategies for new vehicle programs to demonstrate critical integration and feature performance as part of gating reviews
Develop and execute processes to enable faster set up of new programs within Systems Engineering
Empower Systems Engineers on the team, acting as a mentor as needed
Decompose sophisticated engineering challenges into clear and measurable risks and achieve consensus for team recommendations
What you must have:
BS, MS, or PhD in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant field
8-10+ years of industry experience in implementing complex safety-critical systems
Experience taking requirements from R&D and design to shipping and large-scale production
Experience with modern robotic architecture or equivalent
Strong technical and nontechnical communication skills across a diverse set of stakeholders
Ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
Ability to adapt and operate under ambiguity
Bonus Points!
Proven track record of successful systems engineering for a safety-critical product
Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. Jama, DNG, DOORS)
Knowledge of distributed systems & software architectures, their multiple abstraction layers, and their interdependencies
Experience building and scaling systems engineering processes and tools across multiple programs
Experience taking a product from 0 to 1, and then scaling it
The salary range for this position is $161,500 - $237,500. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
