Role Purpose:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the digital forensics’ unit for a digital forensic technician. This post holder will provide effective technical support to the digital forensics unit and will capture and process digital evidence from devices.

The post is suitable for both graduates and people who have a technical interest in the digital field. Previous experience in digital forensics is not required and full training is provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of exhibit receipt and the exhibits store with responsibility for ensuring the continuity of all exhibits and maintaining integrity throughout.
  • Disassembly, photography, and reassembly of digital devices ready for forensic imaging and processing.
  • Forensic imaging and processing of digital devices using a range of forensic software and techniques, in accordance with digital forensic unit standard operating procedures, ISO17025 / ISO17020 standards and forensic science regulator codes of practice.
  • Producing information in a format ready for full examination by the digital forensic analysts.
  • Triage and basic examination, processing, and reporting of mobile phone devices.
  • Assisting the digital forensic analysts where required with the progression and basic analysis of casework.
  • Production of reports and statements clearly detailing work carried out to present to officers and the courts where required.
  • Updating of Force and national databases.
  • Maintenance of the digital forensic unit hardware and software assets.
  • Backup and archiving of data stored on the server.
  • Provide support to viewing room and mobile phone kiosks users
  • Due to the nature of the work undertaken by unit, the successful candidate will require physical and emotional resilience to be able to deal with material of a distressing nature including Child Sexual Abuse Imagery on a regular basis.

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
