Nature, our life support system, is being lost at an alarming rate and we have a short window to reverse this. That is why WWF UK have formed a ground-breaking multi-year partnership with Tesco to deliver sustainable, healthy and affordable food for all, with the ambitious aim of halving the environmental footprint of the UK shopping basket. We now have an incredible opportunity to join us as a Sustainable Agriculture Specialist and lead the sustainable agriculture workstream of our partnership with Tesco and the agriculture elements of the WWF Basket.
As Sustainable Agriculture Specialist, you will ensure key pieces of work are delivered that drive technical, government and sector advocacy as well as business transformation in Tesco’s supply chains, both in the UK and overseas. Collaborating with WWF colleagues and Tesco counterparts, you will oversee project planning, implementation, coordination, delivery and reporting. You will lead the delivery of key individual projects too. We will look to you to track budget allocations and spend, and identify knowledge gaps in the team, calling in external specialist expertise where needed. Important will be the ability to coordinate activities to maximise impact with wider WWF programmes of work as appropriate as well as collaborate with colleagues working on land use and management reform policy and projects covering transitioning to zero carbon agriculture, nature recovery and nature-based solutions.
For this key role, you must have a relevant qualification and/or equivalent experience in sustainable agriculture, business management, environment or sustainability. This will have given you a good understanding of soil, water, biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions and regenerative agriculture. You will have a track record of working with corporate partners, in networked, remote or virtual teams too. You will also be used to bringing together stakeholders and creating a culture of collaborative working. Critically, you will be used to engaging with businesses on changing policy & practice. Ideally, you will have practical experience within the farming sector is desirable.
Your technical expertise will be complemented by excellent communication, influencing, problem solving and presentation skills. Capable of working independently and proactively you will be good managing complex programmes, projects and budgets too.
