About the role
At Crawley, we are ambitious and have a passion for delivering decarbonisation and a vision for achieving net zero carbon emissions. “Green transformation” of our economy is at the heart of Crawley’s economic recovery plan, including the development of an Innovation Centre, which champions “green” technologies and builds the capacity of the green-tech business cluster locally. To spearhead delivery of our Climate Change Action Plan and our Sustainability programmes we are seeking to appoint a Sustainability Manager.
You will manage the Council’s Sustainability Team and drive the development and delivery of a growing portfolio of decarbonisation, green infrastructure, sustainable energy and sustainable transport schemes. These include cutting edge and high-quality sustainable travel projects, which are providing new bus, cycle, pedestrian and electric vehicle infrastructure. A number of these schemes are part of the £73 million Crawley Growth Programme and the £22.1 million Crawley Towns Fund.
You will oversee the development of a range of bids for external funding resources to invest in the delivery of the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan and to further our programmes of sustainability and decarbonisation. In so doing you will lead and oversee the Council’s Sustainability Team to drive decarbonisation across the Borough and towards delivery of Crawley’s net zero ambitions.
You will have extensive experience and a proven track record in leading the delivery of decarbonisation and sustainability programmes and of unlocking the required resources, an excellent working knowledge of local and national sustainable development policy, excellent interpersonal and partnership working skills and you will be a strong people manager.
In return for meeting the challenges of this rewarding role, we offer commitment to staff training and development, flexible working arrangements and an attractive pension scheme. You will be expected to work on a “hybrid” basis, working in the Council’s brand new Town Hall in Crawley Town Centre and from home. The council also offers a bike to work scheme as well as a discounted rail and bus fare scheme.
Job share applications are welcome.
