Your apprenticeship programme will then incorporate working in two to three different TfL placements each year. Placements will be chosen with you to complement your studies. The placements will allow you to gain the skills, experience and behaviours required to complete the Apprenticeship and for your future career.
Placements will be available across three categories: i) within the TfL Sustainability and Corporate Environment team, ii) in other teams where sustainability and environment is a direct part of the role and iii) other teams within TfL where the placement will be approached through the lens of environment and sustainability. Examples are shown below.
- Corporate strategy - Developing, implementing and communicating overall strategies and plans to achieve environmental goals and tracking and reporting progress.
- Sustainability - Developing, implementing and communicating overall strategies and plans to achieve sustainability goals, providing governance, training and stakeholder engagement and building partnerships.
- Energy & Carbon - Developing detailed plans to tackle our energy consumption, increase renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.

Where can this career take me?
We need every role in TfL to include sustainability and for it to be at the heart of every decision we make. You will be part of a strong and growing network of individuals across TfL that are passionate and actively working to progress our sustainability goals in every part of our organisation.
What training and support will you get?
Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your Line Manager. The study element of the apprenticeship will be a mixture of day release with a few full weeks of block learning.
What do we look for?
Everything we do as an organisation is to ensure that our evolving city remains future-proof for millions of Londoners. Our talented apprentices will gain the skills, behaviours and experiences to help deliver that vision, so it’s important that we find the best people to help us do this. We’re looking for people who;
- Have an inquisitive mind
- Take their own action
- Thrive in a team
As a member of the team, we’ll give you responsibility and the opportunity to add value from day one. If you are excited by inspiring and influencing the future of London and are up for a challenge and thrive under pressure, then this is the career path for you.
