Position: Sustainability Analyst

Location: Head Office (Grays, RM20 4DB) or London Office (Cannon Street, EC4M 5SB)

Salary: £25,000 – £30,000

Work Hours: Monday To Friday 9:00 – 17:30


Primary Responsibilities

  • Delivery of organisational greenhouse gas assessments, including GHG calculations, emissions estimation modelling, and quality assurance review of data.
  • Monitoring energy, waste and water usage across the organisation, including the analysis of utility meter data to identify areas of high energy/water usage
  • Management of data into software tools, gathering data from site teams and inputting into carbon calculation software, ensuring all is up to date.
  • Providing reports and updates for guidance to site teams and management.
  • Analyse reporting data to identify trends.
  • Liaising with our clients and site teams, answering technical and project management queries, and helping site teams report on their sustainability performance.
  • Provide technical advice to colleagues on carbon emissions and energy data, including advising on the carbon impact of projects.
  • Assisting with mandatory and voluntary public forum reporting such as SECR/ESOS.
  • Conducting ad-hoc research on sustainability and climate change standards, emission sources, and other topics as needed.
  • Updating our extensive database of emissions factors and statistical data.
  • Lead the development of new/ improved processes and procedures that allow for better data
  • capture and management in relation to carbon emissions – in particular, scope 3 (supply chain and
  • other indirect emissions) – as required to facilitate robust emissions reporting.
  • Assist in the development of carbon reduction plans for the organisation.
  • Be an in-house advisor on GHG measurement and develop a long-term vision for the company.
  • Contribute to producing the annual carbon footprint report.
  • Provide regular and up-to-date information on carbon reductions/consumption for the purpose of bid tendering.
  • Developing carbon reduction case studies for both social media and the bid team.
  • Draft communications to update internally and externally on sustainability progress.
  • Provide up-to-date and regular information for social media channels such as LinkedIn and the John F Hunt website.
  • Provide ad-hoc environmental monitoring advice where required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Hold a degree in an Environmental Sciences or related field minimum (or previous experience in a sustainability role).
  • Keen interest in sustainability.
  • Be familiar with or have experience in GHG reporting and GHG reporting standards.
  • Be able to critically appraise the relevance and accuracy of data.
  • Have demonstrated a strong interest in environmental sciences, climate change or sustainable development matters.
  • Be extremely attentive to detail and rigorous.
  • Analytical experience, with the ability to develop actionable insights from the data
  • Possess strong research and analytical skills.
  • Well organised and able to prioritise tasks
  • Ability to work autonomously and within strict deadlines to high standards with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written business communication skills
  • Excellent at forging relationships across all levels of the business and with clients
  • Proficient with all Microsoft packages (Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Outlook) and strong typing and PC skills generally.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills being able to deal with all levels of employees, including Senior Directors, in a confident, friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to prioritise on a daily basis a variety of matters as and when they arise and deal with them with full confidentiality, tact and diplomacy
