Surgical Care Practitioner Southampton, England

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Full Time Southampton, England 41659 - 47672 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We are looking to recruit an established band 7 Surgical Care Practitioner at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) for our Cardiovascular and Thoracic service.

Over the past several years, our team of committed and dynamic practitioners have developed the role of Surgical Care Practitioner from being just a job title to a well-defined, structured and respected career pathway.

We have challenged the boundaries of the conventional nursing role while ensuring all innovations are introduced safely and effectively. We’ve become expert practitioners within the field of cardiac surgery and we act as advisors for all members of the multidisciplinary team, offering support to both theatre nurses and junior doctors.
YOUR MAIN DUTIES

You can read an overview of the main duties of the role in the section below: Job Description and Main Responsibilities.

To understand the role in more detail please read the full job description and person specification documents attached.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

At UHS we are committed to providing a flexible working environment. We believe that it benefits everyone if we achieve a positive work-life balance. Whether you are balancing family, study or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

We’re proud to have been voted in the Top Five acute Trusts for our commitment to supporting our staff to achieve work-life balance.

UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme and life insurance.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Within the scope of the role, the Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) will deliver highly specialised intra-operative care to patients undergoing Cardiac Surgery. The SCP will communicate effectively with the patient and all members of the multidisciplinary team in the theatre environment.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

To be successful in your application you will need to demonstrate the ability to autonomously manage acutely ill patients in diverse clinical environments. Diplomacy, excellent communication skills and a critical care qualification are essential to this role.

In return we can offer you the opportunity to influence and develop the service further and provide structured career development supported by an experienced senior team.
