Amethyst Care & Support Group are currently looking for a reliable team of Support Workers to support people within their own homes in a supported living service in Horsforth LS18

The service is located close to the Bus routes and high street and supports 10 individuals with varying Mental Health needs.

The service will also support individuals in the community within a 5 mile radius.

Key responsibilities

    • Assist Service Users in their personal care ensuring optimum independence, dignity and respect of individuals where applicable
    • Support with the preparation of meals beverages, encouraging and assisting, promoting independence.
    • Ensure cleanliness is promoted at all times whilst supporting individuals within peoples own homes and service communal areas.
    • Ensuring all relevant documentation are kept up to date and in line with the organisations Data Protection policy. This includes care plans, communication log books etc.
    • Understand personal responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety at Work legislation, particularly in relation to moving and handling of Service Users and fire safety and evacuation procedures.
    • Act courteously towards Service Users and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each Service User.
    • Take reasonable care of items of equipment used within the service, including reporting any faults or maintenance requirements.
    • Responsible for the safe and tidy storage of supplies and equipment.
    • To attend Staff meetings and training sessions as required.
    • To adhere to the organisations Policies and Procedures.
    • All of your actions will demonstrate respect for the rights of people you support, and for their decisions and choices. You will promote peoples individuality, where necessary advocating on their behalf.
    • Some of your time may involve providing physical care, assistance or prompting in accordance with the individuals care plan, respecting their dignity and preferences. This could include supporting people to wash, dress, take medication or manage their continence
    • You will support people to achieve their personal outcomes in relation to managing their daily life. This could include support to use transport, keep their home clean, prepare meals, use community leisure facilities, visit family and friends, and attend college or work
    • Its important that you take steps to find out about each persons preferred method of communication, demonstrating active listening and always encouraging their communication, for example through words, pictures, signing or behaviour
    • Where people do not have capacity to make some decisions in their life, you will offer support, guidance and advice that is in their best interest. You will equally seek advice from management to ensure the right actions are undertaken and the Service Users choice is respected.
    • Through person centred planning you will coach people to express their aspirations, develop new skills and to recognise and use their talents
    • Take appropriate and immediate action to:
      • ensure all Service Users are safeguarded from abuse and to
      • report any instances of alleged abuse which you witness or become aware of.
    • Work in a way that promotes trust and builds rapport with each individual, their family and significant others.
    • Keep good records, communicate effectively and share information as appropriate whilst maintaining confidentiality and data protection requirements
    • Be an effective team member, demonstrating flexibility and resourcefulness, and co-operate with colleagues and other people in the best interest of people you support
    • Demonstrate through your actions that you understand and work within the values of the organisation, to include respecting diversity and actively challenging discrimination.
    • Dress and behave appropriately for the support role you are undertaking

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has an interest in mental health and wants to make a difference to peoples lives.

The key is the ability to demonstrate a passion to deliver excellent service to vulnerable adults in a dignified manner. You will need to be able to work independently as well as within a team, and have the confidence to interact with individuals with patience and compassion.

To meet our commitment to providing safe, high quality services to our tenants, we will complete an enhanced background check with the Disclosure and Barring service, which will include a check of the Adult Barred list, once an offer of employment is made.
