Responsible to: Senior Support Worker

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week (incorporating evening and weekend hours and be part of the on-call team to deliver out of hours emergency support where necessary)

Location: Baca office, Loughborough, England. The role requires regular travel to all locations where Baca Services are delivered

Salary: £21000 - £24610 per annum FTE

Contract: Permanent

Overall Purpose

  • To provide therapeutic support for unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people, some of whom are victims of trafficking, enabling them to strengthen their resilience and inspiring with hope to rebuild their lives for a better future.
  • To partner with social workers and representatives from other agencies, for the benefit of the young people.

Duties Responsibilities

  • To be a key worker for several young people who are in the care of Baca, providing high quality holistic and therapeutic support for their transition to adulthood. Several of these young people will be transitioning into being a care leaver or are care leavers.
  • To deliver young people services in line with Baca’s Theory of change, to enable young people to achieve the following outcomes, ensuring it is of the highest quality:
  • Improved Physical Wellbeing
  • Improved Emotional Wellbeing
  • Increased engagement with Education, Employment and Training
  • Increased Social engagement
  • Increased Personal Safety
  • To work proactively and collaboratively to ensure all young people are safeguarded and taking the initiative in resolving any issues that may arise with young people.
  • Develop regular appropriate connection in line with Baca’s policies with those who are no longer accommodated by Baca but are supported through the care leaver programme to draw their views into the Young People stories work.
  • To be a role model to all young people in Baca’s care, providing care and compassion without discrimination of age, race, colour or behavioural issues.
  • Support young people in developing essential life skills in line with the individual support plan to prepare them for independent living. Training young people in living skills such as washing, cleaning, cooking and safety food shopping and budgeting; proactively and intentionally in line with the Baca pyramid plan.
  • Support young people in developing their skills and interests in education, vocation or hobbies.
  • Identify and organise activities /opportunities to develop skills that enable transition to higher/further education, employment or vocational training.
  • Be an active part of a diverse environment of staff and young people from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Develop excellent working partnership with social workers, volunteers and other partners to provide a holistic development package for each young person enabling them to become independent.
  • Actively plan, prepare and participate in all meetings and events that are related to the support of the young people.
  • Develop and maintain excellent communication with all members of the team and all external partners and supporters.
  • Carry out all administrative work required as part of the role such as month end reports, support plans on time and in a consistent manner.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with the needs of the team.

Personal Specification

Baca is looking for someone with leadership qualities who can be an integral current support team in providing support and care for young people (predominately male) who are unaccompanied asylum seekers aged 16 to 18, as the care leaver lead. The successful applicant will have the ability to ensure the support we give to the young people is of the highest quality and goes beyond the statutory standards set.

You will be passionate about our work and able to interact well and empathise with the young people in our care. You will be passionate about our work and be able to lead by example in building an empowering environment to enable each young person to be their best, being both a supportive leader and one that brings challenge where necessary. You will a point of contact for local authorities and be able to work with them to ensure allocated support hours match the needs. You will be very organised, have key eye for details and be able to proactively solve problems with team. You will be a great people person who can develop key external relationships and work well with the staff team, linking in with the culture of family that exists within the organisation.
