Therapy Support Worker Lead - Cardio Respiratory
Band 5
A new exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced occupational therapy Support worker to join our supportive Occupational Therapy Team. This role will provide the opportunity to demonstrate your skills in Leading the existing support worker team.
This post will work alongside our innovative therapy team, existing support workers and OT and Physio staff to deliver high quality care to our patients and assist in increasing the Occupational therapy intervention.
This role will primarily be based on the cardio respiratory wards, but there will also be opportunity to work in our Vascular, Renal/HPB, cardiac and thoracic surgery wards as well as with our outreach service.

To be based on the cardiac and respiratory wards providing Occupational Therapy interventions to patients with cardiorespiratory conditions. To provide interventions in line with agreed relevant protocols. Interventions provided in addition to those below will include management of the breathless patient including anxiety management and pacing strategies, monitoring Oxygen requirements during treatment and alter Oxygen delivery to maintain Oxygen saturation within target range. Training of patients/carers in the use of manual handling equipment e.g. hoist, rotunda.

- Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy provide key therapeutic assessments and interventions to patients in order to promote independence and facilitate optimum function for individuals; working with patients, families and carers and the multi-disciplinary team to achieve agreed outcomes for patients.
- The Technical Instructor Higher level will provide a complex level of Occupational Therapy intervention within a specified clinical team, including elements of routine Physiotherapy intervention in order to streamline the overall patient journey.
- The role includes identified clinical, administrative, supervisory and educational aspects.This includes being responsible for daily organising of support staff, carrying out regular 1.1 sessions and appraisals.
- To independently manage a clinical caseload of non-routine / complex patients identified through own clinical decision making and risk assessment.
- To work with and support those who have complex needs including physical, psychological, mental health and communication difficulties.
