Job description
Inspire has been supporting adults with learning disabilities in Ellon for over 30 years now and today operates 1 housing support service, 3 care homes and 1 respite service in the town, enabling local adults with additional support needs to get the most out of life.
We currently have a vacancy for Support Workers, up to 39hrs per week at one of our care homes in Ellon.
The people with we support in Ellon at our care home ranges in age and have a variety of interests including walking, cooking, playing darts, going out for meals, attending discos and concerts and going to the cinema. One day you might be helping someone with cooking a meal, cleaning their home or budgeting their money and the next you could be accompanying them to an appointment or activity session or to get their weekly shopping. You may also be required to help with the administration of medication, provide support with eating and drinking at meal times or help to maintain people’s dignity through the provision of quality personal care, depending on individual needs.
This may include:
- Learning daily-life skills that promote independence – including cooking, cleaning, growing fruit and vegetables;
- Travel training – through the opportunity to use public transport;
- Use of local community facilities – visits to parks, swimming pool, café’s, cinema etc.
- Pursuing personal interests – arts and crafts, music, sports etc.
No two services are the same and no two days in any of our services are truly ever the same either!
The people currently supported by Inspire in Ellon also have a mixture of communication levels and physical capabilities, which adds further to the variety of the role.
Although our work can be challenging – and there is the requirement for lone working at a couple of our services - it is also immensely rewarding as Relief Support Workers play a vital role in developing and maintaining the important life skills and encouraging the participation and integration required for the people we support to flourish and get the best out of life.
What’s In It For You?
You don’t need to have any previous experience in social care to apply – we are more interested in your values and transferable skills. We will ensure you go through a comprehensive induction and training programme before your first shift and we can support you to achieve a funded SVQ 3 in Health & Social Care (SCQF level 7) qualification. Ongoing staff support, regular appraisals and a fully-paid training programme is also provided.
We also appreciate that now, perhaps more than ever before, different people need different things from their work pattern, so there is lots of flexibility with available shifts to enable you to fit these around your other commitments.
There are plenty of other benefits that come with working for Inspire, apart from having the opportunity for real personal development and growth and getting to know and spending lots of time with the people we support.
Permanent Support Workers at Inspire receive £11 an hour. There is also a £200 Refer a Friend scheme.
What Are You Waiting For?
If you are outgoing, have a caring nature, and are respectful, compassionate, nurturing and inclusive, then we would love you to join our team here in Ellon and help us continue supporting local adults with learning disabilities to live fulfilled and happy lives.
